POLICE SAY AN OFF DUTY OFFICER WAS WORKING AT A NIGHTCLUB THIS MORNING WHEN HE HEARD SHOTS FIRED. AFTER INVESTIGATING, HE FOUND A MAN SHOT IN THE STREET ON THIRD AVENUE NORTH. HE WAS RUSHED TO UAB HOSPITAL WHERE HE DIED. IT’S BELIEVED THE VICTIM WAS ARGUING WITH AN UNKNOWN SUSPECT WHEN SHOTS WERE EXCHANGED.

Birmingham police are investigating an early Sunday morning homicide and the suspect is on the run. Police say an off-duty officer was working at a nightclub in the 100 block of Third Avenue North when he heard gunshots at 1:10 a.m.After investigating, he found a man lying in the street near his vehicle who had been shot. Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews rushed him to UAB Hospital where he died. It's believed the victim was arguing with an unknown person when shots were exchanged in the street.Police ask anyone with information to call police at 205-254-174 or leave an anonymous tip with CrimeStoppers at 205-254-7777.

Birmingham police are investigating an early Sunday morning homicide and the suspect is on the run.
