Birmingham Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city’s Evergreen community Monday afternoon.It happened just after noon on Fifth Street North in North Birmingham. Officers got to the scene and found a man between the ages of 18 and 25 who laying on a porch after being shot. Birmingham Fire and Rescue said the victim dead at the scene.Investigators estimate 20 shots were fired. Some were fired from the street and could have been fired from the steps of the porch. They believe the victim possibly ran back to the porch and then collapsed.Police said it’s unclear if the victim and suspect knew each other or if the victim shot back, but a neighbor heard all the commotion.“You hear so regularly,” Luke Walker, who lives in the area, said, “and I didn’t take time to count them. Just ‘bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow, bow.’ You know the difference from a firecracker. I just heard some gunshots. It sounded like it was up by this church here. I’m a member of that church and I was concerned so I came out the door and looked. There were cars everywhere. I just thought I would walk down and see what's going on. I don’t even know the name of the person. I know some of his relatives. All of them grew up in this church here—New Salem Baptist Church.”WVTM 13 talked to a man who says he’s the grandfather of the man who was shot. He said his grandson went to work at his two jobs and came home and slept. He calls his grandson a good kid who didn’t bother anyone.Birmingham Police tell us no one has been arrested in connection to the shooting and they haven’t identified a person of interest yet. They’re still investigating and looking for more information.
