YEAH, WE’RE AT THE BIRMINGHAM BOTANICAL GARDENS, WHICH ALSO SERVES AS JEFFERSON COUNTY VOTER PRECINCT NUMBER 5280, AND SOME POLL WORKERS HERE GOT SOME TRAINING TODAY ON WHAT THEY CAN EXPECT NEXT TUESDAY. IF SOMEBODY WAS TERRIBLE FROM DECIDING WHO WILL BE OUR NEXT PRESIDENT TO A NEWLY FORMED CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN ALABAMA, THIS IS AN ELECTION EXPECTED TO DRAW RECORD NUMBERS OF VOTERS TO THE POLLS. WE HAVE OVER HALF A MILLION REGISTERED VOTERS IN JEFFERSON COUNTY. WE’RE EXPECTING EXPECTING WELL OVER 300,000 TO TURN OUT NEXT TUESDAY. SO IN RAW NUMBERS, THAT’S A LOT OF FOLKS. AND THAT PUTS PRESSURE ON THE PARKING LOT AND THE TRAFFIC TRAFFIC LIGHTS, THE TURN SIGNALS. SO WE’RE TRYING TO PREPARE FOR THAT. THE CHAIRMAN OF THE JEFFERSON COUNTY BOARD OF REGISTRARS SAYS VOTERS NEED TO BE PATIENT. BUT EVEN WITH THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS EXPECTED TO TURN OUT, HE SAYS HE DOESN’T EXPECT ANY SECURITY ISSUES, ALTHOUGH THEY WILL BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. WE WILL HAVE SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES IN THE AREA OF EVERY PRECINCT, PLUS WE’VE TALKED TO ALMOST EVERY MUNICIPAL POLICE FORCE ALSO, SO THEY’LL BE AWARE AND ENGAGED IF NEEDED. ON NEXT TUESDAY. OFFICIALS WITH THE JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT SAY WHILE THEY’RE GOING TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT, THEY NEED VOTERS TO BE VIGILANT AS WELL. IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING AND NOTHING IS TOO SMALL. IF YOU THINK IT’S OUT OF PLACE, PLEASE LET US KNOW. NOW. UNLIKE MANY OTHER STATES, ALABAMA DOES NOT HAVE EARLY VOTING. BUT ACCORDING TO STEVENSON, WE DO HAVE IN-PERSON ABSENTEE VOTING, WHICH MEANS A PERSON CAN VOTE IN PERSON AT THEIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE AND ONLY THEIR COUNTY COURTHOUSE UP TO 45 DAYS BEFORE THE ELECTION. AND DON’T FORGET, POLLS ARE OPEN 7 A.M. TO 7 P.M. AND AS LONG AS YOU ARE IN LINE BY 7 P.M., YOU’RE GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO VOTE, NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES YOU TO GET THROUGH THAT LINE.
