MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF LYLE SPECIFICALLY, WAS THAT HE WAS JUST A STURDY PERSON. I RESPECTED HIS INTELLECT. THAT’S WHERE HE MET SACRAMENTO RAPPER X-RAIDED, WHO RECENTLY SPOKE ABOUT LYLE WITH EXTRA. HE WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ONES TO TEACH ME TO UTILIZE MY INFLUENCE IN A WAY THAT WOULD ALLOW ME TO HAVE POSITIVE OUTCOMES. IN 1992, HE WAS CONVICTED OF A MURDER HE STILL SAYS HE DIDN’T COMMIT. HE WAS PAROLED IN 2018. IN PART DUE TO A LETTER OF SUPPORT FROM ERIC AND LYLE. LYLE TOLD HIM, THIS IS OUR LITTLE BROTHER. I LOVE HIM SO. YOU LOVE HIM TOO. THE BROTHERS ARE NOW FIGHTING FOR THEIR OWN FREEDOM. NEARLY 30 YEARS AFTER THEY WERE SENTENCED TO LIFE IN PRISON FOR THE MURDER OF THEIR PARENTS, THE LOS ANGELES DISTRICT ATTORNEY IS ARGUING THEY SHOULD BE RELEASED. DO THEY HAVE PAID THEIR DUES NOT ONLY FOR THE CRIMES THEY COMMITTED, BUT BECAUSE OF ALL THE OTHER THINGS THEY HAVE DONE TO IMPROVE THE LIVES OF SO MANY OTHERS? WHEN YOU’VE HAD SUCH HORRIBLE EXPERIENCES WITH PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPOSED TO SORT OF CARE FOR YOU, LOVE YOU, AND THEN IT ENDS IN SUCH A HORRIBLE WAY THAT THAT EMOTION IS JUST, IT JUST IT’S LIFELONG, HE TOLD KCRA AT THE TIME, HE WAS HOPING PEOPLE WOULD START TO SEE THE CASE IN A NEW LIGHT. THIS HAS NEVER BEEN A CASE ABOUT GUILT OR INNOCENCE. IT WAS ALWAYS A CASE ABOUT WHAT HAPPENS IN A IN A FAMILY LIKE THIS, DEALING WITH THESE TOXIC ISSUES THAT LEAD TO THIS TRAGEDY. LIKE THIS. The Menendez brothers are currently in prison in San Diego, but Lyle spent much of his sentence in Mule Creek State Prison in Ione. That's where he met X-Raided, who said he was like a brother to him. "He was one of the first ones to teach me to utilize my influence in a way that would allow me to have positive outcomes," X-Raided told "Extra."In 1992, the rapper was convicted of a murder he still says he didn't commit. He told "Extra" he was paroled in 2018, in part due to a letter of support from Erik and Lyle. Now, the brothers are fighting for their own freedom, nearly 30 years after they were sentenced to life in prison for the murder of their parents in the family's Beverly Hills home. Back in 2017, KCRA 3 spoke with Lyle from prison, where he talked about how he and his brother may have been impacted by sexual abuse. "The destructiveness of family experiences like this — when you've had such horrible experiences with people that are supposed to sort of care for you, love you, and then it ends in such a horrible way — that emotion is, just, it's lifelong," Lyle said. Lyle told KCRA 3 at the time, he was hoping people would start to see his case in a new light. "This has never been a case about guilt or innocence. It was always a case about what happens in a family like this. Dealing with these toxic issues that led to a tragedy like this," he said.
