Second victim dies in weekend Montgomery blaze that also injured 5 firefighters

A bedridden man has died following a fire in Montgomery over the weekend that also claimed the life of a child and injured five firefighters.

The man, who among two people home with the child when the fire erupted, died of his injuries, Montgomery Fire Chief Miford Jordan told Tuesday’s city council meeting, according to WSFA.

The names of both victims have not been publicly released.

WSFA earlier reported the incident happened at about 8 p.m. Sunday at a single-story home in the 3400 block of Gilmer Avenue.

Three people were pulled from the house, with two taken to Baptist South. The juvenile victim was treated at Jackson Hospital but was pronounced dead.

According to Montgomery Fire/Rescue, five Montgomery firefighters were injured.

Two were taken to UAB Hospital for treatment. Three others were taken to Baptist South but were treated and released.
