A cyberattack on Southeastern University this spring did not result in the theft of student records or personal identifiable information, president William Wainwright said in a message to the university.

The university suffered a security breach in February that crippled IT at the university for weeks.

Wainwright said the investigation into the incident, which involved several state and federal agencies, including law enforcement, has just been completed.

“Investigations as complex as this take time, and it was important that the work was conducted with the highest level of diligence to ensure the most thorough and complete results possible,” said Wainwright, who was selected to lead the university in May.

The incident is still the topic of an ongoing criminal investigation.

“We are confident that the work to fortify our systems to an even greater degree after this incident has placed Southeastern in a stronger security posture overall,” Wainwright said.
