SAINT VINCENT’S BIRMINGHAM SPECIFICALLY IN EXCESS OF 125 YEARS. SAINT VINCENT’S AS A NAME EVOKES QUALITY VALUE IN THE ORGANIZATION AND TO THE COMMUNITY TO COMMEMORATE THE DAY SAINT VINCENT’S WORKERS GOT GOODIE BAGS WITH UAB SAINT VINCENT’S SWAG. UAB IS THE EIGHTH LARGEST PUBLIC HOSPITAL IN THE COUNTRY, AND IT’S GROWING EVEN MORE AS THE MORE THAN 5000 SAINT VINCENT’S EMPLOYEES JOIN THE ALMOST 25,000 UAB WORKERS. AS FAR AS PATIENTS GO, THEY TELL ME THEY SHOULD SEE NO CHANGE IN THE CARE THEY’RE RECEIVING AT SAINT VINCENT’S. FIVE HOSPITALS AND 19 PRIMARY AND SUBSPECIALTY OFFICES, SURGERY CENTERS AND STANDALONE ERS. WHAT WILL CHANGE OVER TIME IS YOU’LL SEE MORE, YOU KNOW, FRANKLY, INVESTMENT IN OUR HOSPITALS, YOU KNOW, IS THAT THAT’S NOT A DAY. ONE THING. BUT I THINK WE’RE ALL EXCITED ABOUT YOU KNOW, THE RESOURCES THAT UAB BRINGS TO THE TABLE. AND THIS UNION SHOULD ALSO BENEFIT UAB PATIENTS. RIGHT NOW WE HAVE AN ACCESS CHALLENGE. It is official: St. Vincent's Hospital is now a part of the UAB family. The sale from Ascension to UAB has been in the works for months. The main sign on University Boulevard is now changed. It's the first official indication of the sale. The CEO of UAB Health Systems, Dawn Bulgarella, said, “Keeping the name was really important to us. St. Vincent’s has been in the community, St. Vincent’s Birmingham specifically, in excess of 125 years. St. Vincent's as a name, evokes quality, value in the organization and to the community.” To commemorate the day, St. Vincent's workers got goodie bags with UAB St. Vincent's swag. UAB is the eighth largest public hospital in the country, and it's growing even more as more than 5,000 St Vincent's employees join the almost 25,000 UAB workers. They say patients should see no change in the care they're receiving at St. Vincent's five hospitals and 19 primary care and sub-specialty offices, surgical centers and standalone ERs.Tim Puthoff, the CEO of the Birmingham Campus, said, “What will change over time is you'll see more, you know, frankly, investment in our hospitals. You know, that's not a day one thing, but I think we're all excited about, you know, the resources that UAB brings to the table.”And this union should also benefit UAB patients. Bulgarella said, “Right now we have an access challenge. We have a lot more patients that need to get care than we have the ability to provide care with. So, the addition of the St. Vincent hospitals will help us with that.”
