More showers ahead on a cool, cloudy, damp Friday

THIS IS WVTM. 13 WEATHER WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER RADAR IS STILL TRACKING SOME LOCALLY HEAVY THUNDERSTORMS. NO SEVERE WEATHER. THESE ARE JUST BIG TIME DOWNPOURS OVER ST CLAIR COUNTY. THE FAR WESTERN EDGE OF CALHOUN COUNTY DOWN SOUTH OF OHATCHEE AND RAGLAND. THIS DOWNPOUR HAS BEEN MOVING TOWARD THE NORTH AT ABOUT 30 MILES PER HOUR. SO THIS DOWNPOUR THAT’S OVER RAGLAND, IT WILL SOON BE UP CLOSER TO ASHEVILLE AND THEN OVER THE STEELE AREA LIKELY COMING IN THE HEAVIEST PART BETWEEN STEELE AND ASHVILLE ALONG A HIGHWAY, INTERSTATE 59, AS WELL AS A US HIGHWAY 11. WE’LL PUT A QUICK STORM TRACK ON HERE. THE LIGHTNING IS PRETTY PROLIFIC WITH IT AT THE MOMENT, BUT AS IT’S MOVING UP TOWARD THE NORTHWEST, THE NEXT HALF HOUR, THESE ARE SOME OF THE COMMUNITIES. IT’LL BE IN THE PATH OF IT. ASHEVILLE, WHITNEY JUNCTION, THE GILBERT COMMUNITY, AS WELL AS FERGUSON CROSSROAD. ALSO A PRETTY GOOD DOWNPOUR RIGHT OVER SOUTH SIDE THAT’S MOVING UP TOWARD ATTALLA AND THE SOUTH END OF GADSDEN AND THEN OVER TOWARDS THE ALABAMA CITY AREA FROM NORTHERN WALKER COUNTY THROUGH WINSTON COUNTY, A TREND OF SHOWERS AND STORMS THERE. IT SEEMS LIKE IT HAS NOT STOPPED RAINING FOR THE LAST 6 HOURS AROUND JASPER, BUT IT WILL COME TO AN END A LITTLE BIT LATER ON. WE’LL GET ABOUT A TWO HOUR BREAK BEFORE SOME OF THIS ACTION OVER MISSISSIPPI STARTS TO MOVE OUR WAY. IN FACT, THIS UPPER AIR LOW THAT TURNED INTO MORE OF A TROPICAL LOOKING LOW STILL SWIRLING HERE NORTHWEST OF JACKSON, MISSISSIPPI. AND BY TOMORROW AFTERNOON, WE THINK THAT WILL BE RIGHT ON TOP OF BIRMINGHAM WITH THE HEAVIEST ACTION AS FAR AS RAIN GOES OVER THE EASTERN PART OF THE STATE. MOVING ON DOWN INTO GEORGIA, BEYOND US. SO TONIGHT WE GET SOME SHOWERS THAT STILL LINGER AROUND. CLOUDY AND DAMP AT TIMES. TOMORROW MORNING, SOME SCATTERED SHOWERS LINGERING ALL DAY LONG. SO WE GET THESE LITTLE BANDS OF SHOWERS TONIGHT, A BRIEF BREAK IN THE ACTION AND LOOK AT THE TEMPERATURE HERE IN THE FIFTIES. TOMORROW MORNING. WHILE THAT DOESN’T SOUND TOO BAD WITH THE CLOUDS AND SHOWERS AROUND ALL DAY, WE JUST HAVE A REALLY HARD TIME WARMING UP. WE’LL BE IN THE LOW TO MID-SIXTIES FOR MOST OF THE AFTERNOON AROUND BIRMINGHAM, TUSCALOOSA AND ANNISTON TUSCALOOSA WILL BRIEFLY GET UP IN THE SEVENTIES. EUTAW. DEMOPOLIS. CLANTON. LIKELY IN THE SEVENTIES, BUT THEN THERE MAY BE SOME COMMUNITIES IN NORTHEAST ALABAMA THAT HAVE A REALLY HARD TIME GETTING OUT OF THE FIFTIES TOMORROW. SATURDAY LOOKS WARM AND DRY. SUNDAY, A COOL FRONT COMING IN WILL LEAD TO SOME SHOWERS EARLY IN THE MORNING, BUT FOR THE STALLIONS GAME COMING UP SATURDAY NIGHT WILL BE IN THE SIXTIES TO START AND THEN ABOUT 63 IN THE FOURTH QUARTER OF THAT ONE. SO FRIDAY SHOWERS ARE ENDING FAIRLY EARLY WEST TO EAST ACROSS CENTRAL ALABAMA SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. THE SHOWERS IN THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD INTO EARLY SUNDAY MORNING AND THEN NEXT WEEK RYAN. WELL, THAT LOOKS LIKE HOME RUN DERBY KIND OF WEATHER. MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY THAT AGAIN. I RUN THE HOME RUN DERBY COACH PITCH.

More showers ahead on a cool, cloudy, damp Friday

Locally-heavy storms knocked down a few trees here and there Thursday, but the risk of severe storms is behind us for now. Friday still looks damp and cool, but the weather improves some for Saturday. Check the video forecast for the latest.COOL, DAMP FRIDAYA slow-moving low hangs around Alabama most of the day Friday: keeping clouds, showers and a breeze in the picture for most of the day. Occasional showers showers add another 0.1" to 0.3" of rainfall through Friday afternoon.Expect highs in the in middle to upper 60s; that’s cooler than normal and lower than expected earlier in the week when it looked like the low would move a bit faster. It stays cloudy and cool, and the few showers we have look generally light and mostly east of the Birmingham area in the afternoon and evening.WEEKEND OUTLOOK Rain moves out by Friday night leaving us dry for most of the day Saturday. A large complex of storms near the Gulf Coast Saturday likely prevents any afternoon or evening storms around North and Central Alabama, so expect a warm spring day: highs in the upper 70s with a southwest wind. Some showers and a few isolated storms move in ahead of a cold front late Saturday night, and that front slows down over the state through Sunday morning: clouds, showers likely early Sunday, drying out with a cool northwest wind Sunday afternoon.Expect a high Sunday in the upper 60s to lower 70s with some afternoon sun and a gusty 10 to 20 mile per hour breeze.QUIET WEATHER AHEAD Don’t say it too loudly, but the weather next week looks very quiet next week through the historical peak of tornado season in Alabama. We start the week cool and dry: 40s in the mornings, 60s and 70s in the afternoons on Monday and Tuesday with a mostly clear sky.It starts warming up again Wednesday into Thursday and Friday: 70s and 80s again with no signs of any rough weather on the immediate horizon. The final week of the month into early May do look a little more iffy in terms of active weather. A more energized subtropical jet stream and a faster-paced pattern across the country could provide some stormy weather now and then: very typical of the season!CLICK TO SEE THE 7-DAY FORECASTGet the free WVTM 13 app and turn on the alerts for the latest weather updates.—STAY WEATHER AWAREGet the free WVTM 13 app and turn on the alerts for the latest weather updates. For the latest Birmingham weather information and central Alabama's certified most accurate forecast, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10-Day ForecastInteractive RadarBirmingham SkycamsLive Doppler RadarSign Up For Email Weather AlertsDownload the WVTM 13 AppDon't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
