WE’LL HAVE TO WATCH. A FEW OF THESE COULD BECOME STRONG TO SEVERE. REALLY JUST DEPENDS ON HOW THINGS FORM, HOW THINGS PLAY OUT. BUT IT’S THE TIME OF THE YEAR AND IT’S THE KIND OF PATTERN WHERE CERTAINLY SOME SEVERE WEATHER RISK WILL BE POSSIBLE. RIGHT NOW, STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS THE RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER LATE SUNDAY, MAINLY CONFINED TO PORTIONS OF NORTH ALABAMA. BUT OF COURSE, THAT COULD CHANGE. Summertime heat returns this weekend; storms possible Sunday
It will feel much more like summer heading into the weekend. Plenty of heat and humidity could trigger some stronger storms by Sunday. Check the video forecast for the latest.DRIER WITH BUILDING HEATThe upper low that has plagued the area much of this week is finally pulling away, allowing some drier air to filter into the state. Skies were brighter today, although high temperatures only climbed into the 80's.Outdoor plans this evening? The forecast looks great. Most of us will see a dry night with slightly lower humidity, making for comfortably warm temperatures. SUNNY SATURDAY Saturday will turn hotter as a high-pressure ridge responsible for giving Texas record-breaking heat builds in. Highs will reach the low 90s over much of central Alabama, although humidity levels stay bearable thanks to surface winds from the west and northwest. HORRIBLY HUMID WITH STORMSSunday will feel just awful. Winds turn to the southwest, pumping in plenty of humidity. That, combined with temperatures in the low 90s, will jack the heat index up to the triple digits in many locations. Check out these forecast high temperatures over the next five days. Certainly pool weather! There seems to be two distinct chances for storms Sunday and Sunday night. First, early Sunday morning, a thunderstorm complex could impact at least some of our counties in central Alabama as it moves southeast. Some of these storms could contain gusty winds. Depending on if we see widespread rain in the morning, there will be a conditional chance for a few afternoon storms. Forecast models have at times indicated a stronger thunderstorm complex moving in from the north Sunday night into early Monday morning. We'll have to watch for the potential of a few severe storms within that complex; large hail and strong winds are the main threats. As of now, the Storm Prediction Center only includes far north Alabama under a Marginal risk for a few stronger storms producing gusty winds, but don't be surprised if that is extended farther south in future updates.Additional storms will fire again Monday afternoon, with temperatures in the low 90s and heat index values ranging from 100-105. MORE HEAT NEXT WEEKSurface winds turn northwest by Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a nice drop in humidity and not many storms. Unfortunately for us, that just means the air can heat more efficiently. Highs will be in the low and mid-90s for several days; some spots could even climb into the upper 90s.CLICK TO SEE THE 7-DAY FORECAST—STAY WEATHER AWAREGet the free WVTM 13 app and turn on the alerts for the latest weather updates. For the latest Birmingham weather information and central Alabama's certified most accurate forecast, watch WVTM 13 News.Current Weather ConditionsHourly Forecast | 10-Day ForecastInteractive RadarBirmingham SkycamsLive Doppler RadarSign Up For Email Weather AlertsDownload the WVTM 13 AppDon't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
