A Mobile County District Attorney’s Office task force created to arrest “dangerous defendants” has handcuffed a suspect on criminally negligent homicide charges, the office announced Wednesday.
Kenneth O’Neil Washington Jr., who was indicted by a Mobile County grand jury last month, was arrested in connection with the June 2022 death of Montrez Mitchell.
The task force was formed to expedite arrests of “dangerous defendants” who have been secretly indicted, the office said, adding that the unit enables prosecutions to start much sooner in court.
“We will continue to utilize this task force to ensure the safety of Mobile County citizens and expedite the judicial process,” said Mobile County DA Keith Blackwood.
Washington is among 11 defendants to have been arrested by the task force since it was created.
