Troy’s Shakel Brown signs NFL free agent deal

Troy defensive tackle Shakel Brown has signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tennessee Titans.

Brown (6-foot-4, 320 pounds) was a three-year contributor for the Trojans after transferring from Itawamba (Miss.) Community College. The Miami, Fla., native totaled 32 tackles, six tackles for loss and four sacks in 2022 as Troy went 12-2 and won the Sun Belt Conference championship.

Brown joins teammate Jake Andrews as former Trojans who received NFL opportunities this weekend. Andrews, an All-Sun Belt Conference center in 2022, was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fourth round on Saturday.

There’s no word yet on the status of Troy linebacker Carlton Martial, the 2022 Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year and the all-time leading tackler in FBS history. Martial, who participated in the Reese’s Senior Bowl but was not invited to the NFL Combine, had not signed with an NFL team as of late Saturday.
