Two suspects now charged in fatal shooting of Devarta Thomas March 20

It happened in the 300 Block of 74th Street North.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —

UPDATE: April 14:

The Birmingham Police Department (BPD) announced a second arrest in this homicide investigation.

The police department reported Tony Jones II, 32, of Birmingham, was taken into custody April 13 on a warrant for capital murder.

Back on March 24, Jamarian Carpenter, was arrested and charged with capital murder, said the BPD.

Update: The victim has been identified as Devarta Dedre Thomas, 30, of Birmingham.

Birmingham police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city's East Lake area Monday.

At around 12:30 a.m., officers responded to the 300 Block of 74th Street North on the report of a person down in the road.

When they arrived, they found a man lying unresponsive who had been shot.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue crews pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The man's name has not been released.

There is no one in custody. Police don't have much information and continue to investigate.
