Union Grove man killed in head-on collision

A car accident claimed the life of a Union Grove man Thursday afternoon.It happened just before 1 p.m. on Alabama 75, roughly one mile south of Susan Moore in Blount County.Troopers with ALEA's Highway Patrol Division say that 57-year-old Shannon Gatlin was fatally injured when the vehicle he was a passenger in collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Scott Melvin, 53, of Helena.Both men were transported to Ascension St. Vincent’s Blount Hospital, where Gatlin later died.The driver of the vehicle Gatlin was riding in, Connie P. Barksdale, 72, of Altoona, and fellow passenger Johnny B.
