The press box at Theodore High School’s football field was vandalized last week, with damage estimated at $60,000, according to a Mobile County School System official.
“We’re gonna have to spend $60,000 to get this back in shape and that’s money out of our budget for these children,” Mobile County School System District 5 Commissioner Johnny Hatcher told Fox 10. “This is now top priority. We’re gonna have to work on this and move this to the top of the list- it’s important these kids have this. This is where they can come out and play on their home field especially on opening day.”
Hatcher said the football field has surveillance cameras but the vandals were not caught on tape.
He surmised the culprits wandered through the woods to get to the stadium and press box, which contained valuable electronics.
Some of the electronics were stolen from the press box.
Mobile police are investigating the incident.
