Vehicle overturned in Cahaba River

Lanes are back open on I-59 in Trussville

TRUSSVILLE, Ala. —

Lanes have reopened on Interstate 59 after a vehicle left the interstate and plunged into the Cahaba River Tuesday afternoon.

It happened just past the Deerfoot exit in Trussville where the car ran off and rolled to a stop under the bridge.

Trussville police and troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency were on the scene, where the vehicle was overturned in the water.

Two motorists witnessed the accident and pulled over so they could help get the female driver and two passengers out of the car.

One of the men who helped told WVTM 13 that he saw the car veer out of the lane. He thought the driver was pulling over to stop, but the car kept going and left the interstate between the two bridges and rolled down the embankment.

Police said there do not appear to be any serious injuries, but people were being evaluated.
