A man is fighting for his life after he was shot in an apparent road rage incident Tuesday afternoon in northeast Jefferson County, authorities said.

Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Palmerdale Fire Department on Bradford Trafford Road around 2:45 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a person shot in a reported road rage incident, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred in the 7400 block of Narrows Road but the victim was taken to the fire station for assistance, the office said.

Witnesses told authorities the man and his passenger were driving on Narrows Road when they noticed a vehicle follow them closely.

The man then pulled over his vehicle while the other vehicle also stopped.

The victim approached the driver of the other vehicle when an argument ensued, according to authorities.

The driver of the second vehicle then fired a shot, hitting the man in the abdomen, the sheriff’s office said.

The victim was taken to UAB Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.

Detectives are seeking a man, identified as Javier Byrese Burny, for questioning.

Anyone with information on Burny was asked to call 205-325-1450, option 2.
