2 killed in fiery crash on Birmingham’s University Boulevard under I-65 overpass

A fiery crash in Birmingham early Sunday left two people dead.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service responded at 3:30 a.m. to a report of a single-vehicle crash on University Boulevard near Ninth Street South.

BFRS Battalion Chief Tobias Jones said crews arrived to find a vehicle fully involved in flames. The vehicle was against the bridge under the Interstate 65 overpass.

After extinguishing the blaze, firefighters discovered two people dead in the front seats. Their identities have not yet been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
