WITH EVERYTHING WE HAVE LEARNED FROM POLICE. MANY PEOPLE ARE NOW ANGRY BECAUSE SO MUCH WENT INTO FINDING HER. YEAH, IT’S BROUGHT OUT A LOT OF DIFFICULT FEELINGS TO THE SURFACE FOR MANY PEOPLE. WVTM 13. LISA CRANE IS LIVE IN HOOVER. LISA THIS INCLUDES THE FAMILY OF ANIAH BLANCHARD. YEAH. WHEN CARLEE RUSSELL DISAPPEARED, A LOT OF PEOPLE VERY UPSET BY THAT. BUT THE NEWS HIT PARTICULARLY HARD FOR ANGELA HARRIS AND ELIJAH BLANCHARD BECAUSE THEIR DAUGHTER ANIAH BLANCHARD DISAPPEARED, WAS ABDUCTED FOUR YEARS AGO. SHE WAS MISSING FOR WEEKS BEFORE HER BODY WAS FOUND. ANIAH BLANCHARD’S MOTHER WAS ONE OF THE FIRST TO RUSH IN TO HELP THE RUSSELL FAMILY. ANGELA HARRIS RALLIED VOLUNTEERS FROM HER NONPROFIT ANAYA’S HEART TO HIT THE GROUND IN SEARCH FOR CARLIE. EVEN WITH EVERYTHING WE’VE LEARNED SINCE CARLY’S RETURN, ANGELA SAYS SHE HAS NO REGRETS. WHEN SOMEBODY IS MISSING LIKE THAT, EVERYBODY NEEDS TO COME TOGETHER, WORK TOGETHER AS A TEAM. AND THEY DID. I’M GOING TO CRY RIGHT NOW JUST THINKING ABOUT IT. HOW THE COMMUNITY IN THE OF HOOVER AND SURROUNDING AREAS AND IN THE STATE JUST CAME OUT TO TRY TO FIND HER AND AND THAT MAKES ME HAPPY TO KNOW THAT PEOPLE WILL DO THAT AND THEY’LL CARE BECAUSE THEY DID IT FOR ANIAH, TOO. WE WERE BLESSED, BUT IT DOESN’T ALWAYS HAPPEN THAT WAY WHEN THERE’S SOMEBODY MISSING. AND I WAS JUST HAPPY TO SEE THAT. AND I HIS FATHER SAYS HE FEELS HURT. THE RUSSELL CASE OPENED WOUNDS FOR HIM THAT WILL NEVER FULLY HEAL. AND NOW HE FEELS IT’S DISRESPECTFUL THAT HIS DAUGHTER’S NAME WAS EVER BROUGHT UP. IN THIS CASE. THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER AND IT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY. SO, I MEAN, I JUST ASK THE PARENTS AND MS. CARLEE, YOU KNOW, IF IT WAS SOMETHING THAT SHE WAS GOING THROUGH, YOU OWE THE PUBLIC AN APOLOGY BECAUSE THIS OPENED UP SO MUCH, MUCH HURT PAIN. ANGELA HARRIS SAYS SHE HOPES THIS CASE WON’T DETER PEOPLE FROM HELPING AND REACHING OUT THE NEXT TIME SOMEONE GOES MISSING. SHE SAYS SHE’S OPTIMISTIC THE RUSSELL CASE WILL RESULT IN SOMETHING POSITIVE. I’M GOING TO BE STILL. I’M GOING TO WAIT TILL I’M I FEEL IN MY HEART AND JUST SEE WHERE THINGS GO. AND IF THERE’S SOME WAY SOMEHOW THAT THIS SITUATION CAN BRING SOME GOOD A LOT OF GOOD, I WANT TO DO THAT. HARRIS SAYS. Aniah Blanchard's parents react to Russell case
With everything we've learned about the Carlee Russell case from police, many people are now angry because so much went in to finding her. It has brought a lot of difficult feelings to the surface for many people. When Carlee disappeared, many people panicked. And the news hit particularly hard for parents whose children have been abducted in the past. People like the parents of Aniah Blanchard, who was abducted four years ago. She was missing for weeks before her body was found. Aniah’s mother was one of the first to rush in to help the Russell family. Angela Harris rallied volunteers from her nonprofit, Aniah’s Heart, to hit the ground and search for Carlee. Even with everything we've learned since Carlee's return, Angela says she has no regrets.“When somebody is missing like that, everybody needs to come together, work together as a team. And they did. I'm going to cry right now just thinking about it, how the community of Hoover and surrounding areas and the state just came out to try to find her. And that makes me happy to know that people will do that, and they'll care cause they did it for Aniah, too. We were blessed, but it doesn't always happen that way when there's somebody missing. And I was just happy to see that," she said.Aniah's father says he feels hurt. The Russell case opened wounds for him that will never fully heal. And now he feels it's disrespectful that his daughter's name was ever brought up in this case.Elijah Blanchard said, “This is a serious matter, and it needs to be taken seriously. So, I mean, I just ask the parents and Ms. Carlee you know, if it was something that she was going through, you owe the public an apology because this opened up so much hurt pain.”Harris says she hopes this case won't deter people from helping and reaching out the next time someone goes missing. She says she's optimistic the Russell case will result in something positive.Harris said, “I'm going to be still. I'm going to wait till I feel in my heart and just see where things go. And if there's some way, somehow that this situation can bring some good, a lot of good, I want to do that.”Harris says she continues to reach out to the Russell family to let them know she's there if they need her. This, as Hoover police continue the investigation into Carlee's disappearance.
