A Birmingham man was shot to death Saturday during a domestic dispute inside his home.
Birmingham police identified the victim as Eugene Holiday. He was 71.
Officers were dispatched just after 1 p.m. to a residence in the 4700 block of Avenue T.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said West Precinct officers arrived to find the victim unresponsive inside. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced Holiday dead on the scene.
Fitzgerald said it appears the deadly shooting stemmed from a dispute between the victim and his adult son. The suspect fled the scene before police arrived, but they know who they are looking for.
At least one other person was inside the home at the time of the slaying but no one else is injured.
“We have a great idea of who we are looking for,’’ Fitzgerald said. “This is an isolated incident.”
Other family members gathered outside the crime scene. A woman ran into the scene yelling, “That’s my daddy.”
Fitzgerald said any killing is tragic, especially when it happens during a holiday weekend.
“Here you have a father who was shot to death right before Father’s Day. This family will never be the same,’’ he said. “This is something they’re always going to have to keep with them every time Father’s Day weekend comes around - they’re going to remember their loved one being taken from them.’’
