HE ALSO SAYS THE BJARKE IS PRETTY CLOSE TO WORKING OUT A DEAL WITH OPERATING PARTNER LIVE NATION, MEANING THINGS ARE READY TO MOVE FULL STEAM AHEAD. AND THIS IS THE LAST PIECE AN AMPHITHEATER GIVES US EVERY VENUE DOWNTOWN, CREATING THAT CORE NUCLEUS OF THE ENTERTAINMENT DISTRICT THAT WAS ENVISIONED WHEN ALL THIS STARTED. Plans to build a $50 million amphitheater just north of the Uptown area appear to be moving along nicely. The BJCC board of directors met on Friday afternoon. BJCC executive director Tad Snider tells WVTM 13 a financing plan for the amphitheater should be in place by early September. He also says the BJCC is pretty close to working out a deal with operating partner Live Nation, meaning things are ready to move full steam ahead. "And this is the last piece," Snider adds. "An amphitheater gives us every venue downtown, creating that core nucleus of the entertainment district that was envisioned when all of this started. It's the last piece of the puzzle! And the plan would be or the goal would be to aspire to have the organic development fill-in around it, just like it has around Region's Field. Then, all of a sudden, this area around the BJCC is very different than it was 15 years ago." Snider says construction on the new amphitheater should start sometime in early 2024. The facility should be operational by the start of the summer 2025 season.
