Man shot multiple times in Birmingham’s Ensley community in targeted attack

A man was critically injured in what appeared to be an ambush shooting Saturday afternoon in Ensley.

The gunfire erupted about 5:15 p.m. in the 1500 block of Avenue L.

The victim, believed to be in his early 20s, was taken to UAB Hospital where he was undergoing surgery. Police said he was shot multiple times, and his injuries are considered life-threatening.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said the victim was walking when multiple suspects approached him and opened fire on him. More than 20 shots were fired.

West Precinct officers found the victim unresponsive on the sidewalk. “Based on the evidence, we do believe the victim was targeted,’' Fitzgerald said.

No arrests have been made.
