National Copper and Smelting is closing its Huntsville plant.

The factory, which makes precision copper tubing, will lay off about 115 people, according to the Huntsville/ Madison County Chamber.

Founded in 1916 in Cleveland, Ohio, the company moved its operations to Huntsville in 1982. The company currently operates in a 90,000-square-foot facility.

The chamber, in a statement, said it is “actively working with (the company’s) HR personnel to help these team members find new employment.”

“Many of our local companies, especially in the Chase Industrial Park, have openings for positions such as fabricators, shippers, machine operators, maintenance, inspection and customer service, as well as HR and management,” the statement said. “We are hopeful our conversations with local companies will result in new opportunities for these workers,”
