Comfortable early Tuesday but much hotter weather ahead
13 WEATHER. SKY IS CLEAR OVER BIRMINGHAM TONIGHT AND IT’S NOT GETTING AS COOL IN TOWN AS IT IS. JUST OUTSIDE THE CITY WHERE SOME FOLKS ARE ALREADY DOWN IN THE UPPER 60S. WE STILL HAVE A COUPLE OF ISOLATED SHOWERS. ONE ON WVTM 13 LIVE DOPPLER OVER THE FAR SOUTHERN EDGE OF CLAY COUNTY. ANOTHER ONE JUST TO THE WEST OF KELLYTON IN COOSA COUNTY, THIS LITTLE SHOWER THAT’S BETWEEN MILLVILLE AND CRAGFORD IS JUST DROPPING SOUTHWARD. AND UNLESS YOU HAPPEN TO BE UNDER IT, YOU WOULDN’T EVEN KNOW THERE’S ANY RAIN WITHIN 100 MILES OF BIRMINGHAM OR SHELBY COUNTY, TUSCALOOSA OR EVEN ANNISTON THIS EVENING OVER TOWARD NORTH GEORGIA INTO THE CAROLINAS, SOME HEAVIER THUNDERSTORMS ARE PASSING THROUGH, BUT THAT IS ALSO A RESULT OF THE DRIER AIR THAT’S TO THE NORTH, MOVING SOUTHBOUND OVER ALABAMA, GEORGIA AND MISSISSIPPI TODAY. UNFORTUNATELY, IT’S PUTTING THE BRAKES ON, THOUGH, AND THE DRIER AIR THAT IS MARKED OUT IN BLUE HERE, WELL, IT’S HERE FOR ABOUT A DAY AND A HALF AND THEN IT’S BACK OUT OF HERE BY WEDNESDAY EVENING. IT’S DRY ENOUGH THAT I DON’T THINK WE HAVE ANY RAIN AROUND GADSDEN OR ANNISTON OR TALLADEGA, BUT AROUND TUSCALOOSA AND ESPECIALLY WEST JEFFERSON COUNTY, WESTERN SHELBY COUNTY, WALKER COUNTY, MAYBE EVEN CULLMAN COUNTY, WE START GETTING SOME SCATTERED THUNDERSTORMS AND THEN THE HUMIDITY REALLY THICKENS UP ON THURSDAY AND AGAIN ON FRIDAY. AND THIS IS GOING TO BE HERE RIGHT THROUGH THE WEEKEND. AND YOU KNOW HOW THIS WORKS BY NOW. IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST SUMMER AROUND HERE OR IF IT’S YOUR 50TH SUMMER AROUND HERE, THESE THUNDERSTORMS COME IN VERY UNEVEN FASHION. THERE ARE SOME PLACES IN THE LAST SEVEN DAYS AROUND HERE THAT HAVE HAD MORE THAN FIVE INCHES OF RAIN, SOME THAT HAVE BARELY HAD A HALF INCH OF RAIN. WELL, SAME THING IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE NEXT SEVEN GOING THROUGH THE WEEKEND AT LEAST THE FIRST HALF OF IT. OUR BEST CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS WILL BE EAST OF BIRMINGHAM. ANNISTON GADSDEN ONEONTA COLEMAN UP TOWARD THE TENNESSEE VALLEY FROM BIRMINGHAM, WEST. IT’S NOT THAT WE HAVE ZERO STORMS, IT’S JUST THAT THEY’RE PRETTY FEW AND FAR BETWEEN AROUND TUSCALOOSA AND EUTAW AND GREENSBORO. NO RAIN TOMORROW, INCREASING CHANCES ON WEDNESDAY JUST A BIT. THURSDAY, FRIDAY, THE CHANCE COMES BACK UP TO WHERE WE HAVE BEEN THE LAST FEW DAYS WITH WIDELY SCATTERED HIT OR MISS UNEVENLY SPREAD STORMS HIGH TOMORROW 92 DEGREES, BUT IT WILL START OUT COMFORTABLY COOL IN THE MORNING IN THE UPPER 60S, WEDNESDAY, I THINK OUR BEST CHANCE OF A THUNDERSTORM IS GOING TO WIND UP OVER THE WESTERN PART OF THE STATE. AND THAT CIRCLE, THAT AREA OF WHITE WHERE THE SPOTTY STORMS COULD DEVELOP AS EARLY AS MID TO LATE MORNING. SOME OF THOSE ARE GOING TO BE LIKELY INTO THE AFTERNOON AS WELL, BUT IT WILL NOT RAIN. THE WHOLE DAY THROUGH. AND WELL, WE GO INTO THE WEEKEND WITH THE SAME OL

Comfortable early Tuesday but much hotter weather ahead
The air gets more breathable on Tuesday with less humidity, but it still gets hot. Thick, tropical humidity gradually takes over and increases the threat of daily downpours again later this week. Check the video forecast for the latest. SUNNY, HOT, AND DRYA north breeze dropped the humidity and the temperature a little on Monday, and it gets downright comfortable tonight compared to the sticky, muggy nights of late. Expect low temperatures in the middle to upper 60s early Tuesday morning: followed by a hot, sunny day in the 90s.At least it will only feel like the low-90s, though. That thick humidity comes back slowly: gradually increasing, leading to spotty showers and storms again by Wednesday and Thursday.HUMIDITY SURGINGBrief breaks from stuffy humidity do not come around often in July, and this one does not last long at all. Steamy air surges northeast from the Gulf Coast across Alabama again on Wednesday: firing some showers and thunderstorms in scattered, uneven fashion. Our best chance of showers Wednesday comes mainly west of Interstate 65; however, some spotty downpours could develop as far east at Anniston and Gadsden by late afternoon. Expect high temperatures in the 90s and a heat index at or above 100°F.It gets even hotter on Thursday and Friday: highs in the middle 90s, heat index as high as 103°F to 108°F. That kind of heat lasts through the weekend.WHAT ABOUT SOME RAIN?Rain this time of year is prolific: where it happens. It is spotty, uneven, maybe even unfair in how it hits here and not there and vice versa. From July 3rd to July 10th, rainfall ranged from as little as 1.08" at the Bessemer Airport (that would be a near-normal amount for this time of year) to as much as 5.72" on the south side of Talladega. This week's rain chances offer something similar: hit-or-miss showers and storms leaving some with way too much and many with way too little rainfall.Daily storm threats seem to be highest north and east of Birmingham through the weekend; however, a thunderstorm could develop almost anywhere for a brief time in that hottest part of the day.HEADED TO THE GULF COAST?Rough surf and dangerous rip currents are something to always be aware of when traveling to the beach. A high rip current risk is in effect through early Tuesday morning for all Panhandle beaches. Going forward, a moderate rip current risk will be in play through Friday. SUNNY, HOT, AND DRY
A north breeze dropped the humidity and the temperature a little on Monday, and it gets downright comfortable tonight compared to the sticky, muggy nights of late. Expect low temperatures in the middle to upper 60s early Tuesday morning: followed by a hot, sunny day in the 90s.
At least it will only feel like the low-90s, though. That thick humidity comes back slowly: gradually increasing, leading to spotty showers and storms again by Wednesday and Thursday.
