Auburn is facing elimination after a 6-3, 11-inning loss to Penn in the first round of the NCAA Auburn Regional Friday night at Plainsman Park.
Fourth-seeded Penn scored three runs in the top of the 11th, then shut the Tigers down in the bottom of the inning to claim the victory. The Quakers, champions of the Ivy League, had not won an NCAA tournament game since 1990.
Top-seeded Auburn (34-22-1) now faces Southern Miss (41-18) in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Saturday. Penn (33-14) faces third-seeded Samford, which beat Southern Miss 4-2 in 10 innings in Friday’s first game, at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Carson Ozmer still on to try and close it out for Penn. Auburn has 8-9-1 in the order due up.
Wortham flies out to right for the first out. Moss strikes out for the second out.
Stanfield strikes out, and that’s the ball game. Penn wins 6-3 in 11 innings.

After McGonigal strikes out, Pokrovsky walks. Taylor then doubles over the left fielder’s head to bring home the go-ahead run and Penn leads 4-3.
Werchen then reaches on a bunt single, moving Taylor to third. Brown lays down a squeeze bunt, scoring Taylor to make it 5-3.
Brown reached first on the play and Werchen took third after the throw goes over the catcher’s head. Auburn makes a pitching change, with Zach Crotchfelt replacing Cannon.
Palis then bunts another run home to put the Quakers up 6-3. Appel then flew out for the second out.
Hensler flew out to left field to end a three-run inning for Penn. Auburn needs three to tie and four to win.
Cannon allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Auburn fails to score in the 10th inning, keeping the game going into the 11th inning.

Will Cannon worked out of a jam with an inning-ending flyout by Miller. Appel got on base for the fifth time with a two-out walk. Henseler added intrigue with a two-out single moving Appel to third.

Auburn ties the game on a bases-loaded walk by pinch hitter Brody Moss. Chris Stanfield nearly sent the Tiger crowd into a frenzy with a flyout to the deepest part of the ballpark for the third out.

LaRue led off the seventh with a walk. Auburn hitters failed to advance LaRue. After LaRue’s walk, Stanfield, Foster, and Ware went down in order.

Penn’s Baker is injured after singling to right-center and is replaced by pinch-runner Drew Rogers. Rogers tries to steal second, but LaRue throws him out quickly. Povrosky and Taylor then strike out to end the inning.
Auburn 2, Penn 1, Bottom 6th
After Foster strikes out, Ware walks, then Irish singles into center field. Peirce walks to load the bases for McMurray. Penn makes a pitching change, bringing in right-hander Brian Zeldin.
Drombowski was brilliant through five but is out after loading the bases with one out in the sixth. He threw 100 pitches, 58 for strikes. He struck out eight, walked four, and allowed three hits.
McMurray walks on a close 3-2 pitch to bring in the tying run. Howell grounds to third to score Irish with the go-ahead run. Ball was hit so slowly third baseman had no play at home, so he took the out at first.
Green grounds out to second to end the inning, but Auburn has taken a 2-1 lead on a single, three walks, and an RBI groundout.

Auburn makes a pitching change in the top of the sixth, as lefty Tanner Bauman replaces starter Chase Allsup. Allsup allowed a run on three hits with a walk and seven strikeouts in five innings. He threw 87 pitches, 56 for strikes.
Bauman allows a leadoff single to Appel, but erases him when Henseler grounds into a 4-3 double play. Miller then grounds out to short to end the inning.

Auburn goes 1-2-3 as Green flies out to center and LaRue and Stanfield strike out. Penn starter Ryan Drombowski has allowed two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts through five.

Taylor and Werchan struck out for the first two outs of the fifth. Brown kept the inning alive with a scorching comebacker toward the mound. Palis flew out to end the inning.

Auburn strands runners on first and second base when Kason Howell struck out. Ike Irish got the Tigers’ second hit of the game with one out after Bryson Ware popped up. Irish stole second during Peirce’s at-bat that ended with a strikeout. McMurray drew a two-out walk, but the inning ended without a run once Howell struck out.

Appel led off the inning with a liner that went off the tip of Auburn first baseman Cooper McMurray’s glove for a single down the right-field line. Penn took a 1-0 lead on Wyatt Henseler’s double that drove in Appel.
Allsup mitigates the damage by getting Miller to fly out, a Miller strikeout, and Pokrovsky ground out. Allsup has five strikeouts.

Caden Green led the third off with a strikeout. Nate LaRue gets on base with a one-out walk. LaRue advances to second on a wild pitch during Chris Stanfield’s second at-bat.
Stanfield gets LaRue to third with a groundout to the first baseman. Foster left LaRue on third with an inning-ending flyout.

Seth Werchan was Allsup’s third strikeout to start the inning. Asa Wilson hit a weak grounder for out number two in the third.
Green struck out to finish the frame. Allsup has four strikeouts and had allowed one base runner on his first run through the Quaker batting order.

Tigers go 1-2-3 in the second inning. Bobby Peirce struck out to start the second. Cooper McMurray and Kason Howell went down quickly with a fly out to left for McMurray and a ground out for Howell.

Davis Baker strikes out to start the frame. Allsup rings up Jarrett Pokrovsky for the second out. Allsup completes the 1-2-3 on his 32nd pitch with a Ryan Taylor ground out to second base.

Cole Foster gets the first hit of the game with a one-out single. Foster advanced to second on a wild pitch during Bryson Ware’s at-bat. Chris Stanfield led off the game with a line drive that Penn left-fielder Ryan Taylor had to dive to catch for the first out. Ike Irish ends the inning with a ground out to second.

Cole Palis popped out on a foul ball in left field on the first pitch of the ballgame. Jackson Appel walked on a long at-bat to put a runner on second with one out against Tiger starter Chase Allsup. Wyatt Hensler failed to advance Appel with a fly out to right field. Ben Miller ended the inning with a foul out to right field. Penn left one runner on base. Allsup threw 14 pitches with seven strikes.
