Search and rescue efforts are underway for a crewman off a tugboat which went down in the Alabama River Friday near Mount Vernon.
Anna Peoples with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency initially confirmed that search and rescue operations were underway with ALEA Marine Patrol assisting the U.S. Coast Guard.
Coast Guard officials later confirmed one crewman was spotted in the water, but then disappeared. The Coast Guard spokesperson said ALEA has since taken the lead on the operation and investigation.
