A small plane made a crash landing in an east Birmingham rail yard on Tuesday night.

The incident happened before 10 p.m. in the 3300 block of Vanderbilt Road.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Tobias Jones said two people were on board the aircraft, including the pilot.

They were not injured, and there was no fire involved.

Jones said a trainer pilot was training a student. On their approach to the runway at the Birmingham airport, the plane shut off.

The pilot detoured and landed on the CSX railraod tracks.

There were still 40 gallons of fuel left in the plane, which is a Piper Warrior that is used to train new pilots.
