South Alabama’s first football commitment for 2024 is from a local standout.
St. Paul’s offensive lineman Asher Hale announced Sunday he has committed to the Jaguars. He took his official visit to South Alabama earlier this weekend.
Hale (6-foot-5, 300 pounds) also has scholarship offers from UAB, Jacksonville State, Louisiana, Marshall and North Alabama, among other schools. He was an honorable mention All-Coastal Alabama pick as a junior for a St. Paul’s team that went 7-6 and reached the third round of the playoffs in 2022.
Hale is part of the same St. Paul’s program that also produced Lucas Taylor, who transferred to South Alabama earlier this summer after a year at Mississippi State. Hale played right guard and Taylor right tackle on the Saints’ 2021 playoff team before Hale moved to tackle last season upon Taylor’s graduation.
Hale and St. Paul’s begin the 2023 season Aug. 25 at UMS-Wright. The early signing period for the 2024 class begins in late December.
