FLASH FLOODING WILL STRAIN THE CITY’S BUDGET. IT’S REALLY NOT KNOWN HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE THAT CITY TO RECOVER. WELL, THE HEAT IS ALSO A CONCERN RIGHT NOW AS YOUNG MUSICIANS PREPARE FOR FOOTBALL SEASON. YES, WVTM 13, PATSY DOUGLAS JOINS US LIVE FROM INDIANA HIGH SCHOOL THIS MORNING, WHERE BAND CAMP IS IN FULL SWING. PATSY, HOW ARE THESE STUDENTS HANDLING THE HOT TEMPS. WELL, LISTEN, THEIR TEACHER IS A FAN, OF COURSE. THEY ARE MAKING SURE THAT THEY HAVE ENOUGH WATER AND GATORADE FOR THESE STUDENTS DURING CAMP. AND, OF COURSE, MANY OF THEM SAYING THAT WORKING OUT IN THESE HOT TEMPERATURES IS NO JOKE GOING THROUGH BAND CAMP IS EVERYBODY’S LEAST FAVORITE AND MOST FAVORITE PART OF THE BAND EXPERIENCE. ONEONTA SCHOOLS IS A RURAL DISTRICT THAT HAS MORE THAN 100 BAND MEMBERS IN CAMP THIS SUMMER, MANY OF THEM WAKING UP EARLY IN THE HEAT TO PRACTICE THEIR ROUTINES AND INSTRUMENT. JAMES MCDONALD HE IS ENTERING INTO HIS FIRST YEAR AS THE HEAD BAND DIRECTOR. RIGHT NOW HE HAS INTRODUCING ROOKIES LIKE JADEN HAWKINS TO THE CHALLENGE OF BEING OUTSIDE FOR HOURS. I’M READY FOR THE SEASON LIKE I’M EXCITED TO START MARCHING ON THE FIELD AND STUFF, AND I WAS KIND OF NERVOUS TO BEGIN WITH, BUT NOW I’M JUST MORE DETERMINED THAN EVER NOW. MCDONALD SAYS HE NOW HAS FORMER STUDENTS BRINGING RESOURCES TO KIDS LIKE JAYDEN HAWKINS AND OTHER BAND KIDS AND HOPEFULLY THEY’LL BE ABLE TO SURVIVE AT THESE HOT TEMPERATURES. JUST STARTING OUT IN BAND CAMP. HE IS ALSO TRAINING MANY OF HIS STUDENTS TO DRINK WATER AND EAT IN THE MORNING FOR PROPER NUTRITION. THESE BAND KIDS ALSO TELL ME EVEN THOUGH IT’S HOT, THEY’RE STILL HAPPY. THEY CAN MAKE GREAT MEMORIES WITH THEIR FRIENDS SO THEY C

This week, you've probably heard a few tunes playing in your community. That's because school marching band camps are back practicing and preparing for football season.Staff members make sure they have enough water and Gatorade for many of the students. The latest: Weather coverage from WVTM 13 The band director said training them up in weather like this will get them ready for the season. Most of them say that preparing for football season in this heat is no joke. “Going through band camp is everybody's least favorite and most favorite part of the band experience,” said band director James Mcdonald.Oneonta Schools is a rural district that has more than 100 band members in camp this summer, with many of them waking up early in the heat to practice their routines and instruments.Mcdonald is entering into his first year as the head band director. Right now, he is introducing rookies like Jayden Hawkins to the challenge of being outside for hours. “I am ready for the season. I'm excited to start marching on the field and stuff, and I was kind of nervous to begin with, but now I'm just more determined than ever,” Jayden Hawkins said.McDonald said he now has former students bringing resources to help these new band kids survive these hot temperatures. He is also training many of his students to drink water and eat in the morning for proper nutrition.
