Gunfire outside a Fairfield mall Friday afternoon left one person dead.
The shooting happened shortly before 3:30 p.m. at Western Hills Mall. Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies arrived to find the victim dead in the parking lot.
Few details have been released but witnesses report they heard multiple shots fired in what appeared to be automatic gunfire. Deputies have placed more than 70 evidence markers in front of the mall entrance and Nail Palace.
Family members said the victim was a teen. His mother and grandmother were among the mourners at the scene where a large crowd gathered.
Witnesses said the teen had just left the barber shop and walked outside when someone opened fire on him.
The witnesses said it appeared to be an ambush.
