TOM RIGHT NOW. 535 ACCORDING TO THE CDC, MENTAL ILLNESSES ARE AMONG THE MOST COMMON HEALTH CONDITIONS IN THE US AND HERE IN CENTRAL ALABAMA, WOMEN ARE COMING TOGETHER TO HELP OTHER WOMEN DEAL WITH THIS. WVTM 13 PATSY DOUGLAS LIVE IN LOCAL PATSY. WHAT IS THIS GROUP CALL. WELL, THESE GROUP OF WOMEN, THEY’RE AN ORGANIZATION CALLED FEMALES IN ACTION, AND YOU CAN ALREADY SEE THEY ARE OUT THIS MORNING WORKING OUT, OF COURSE, THEIR FOCUS RIGHT NOW IS MIND BODY, HEART, FIRE, SEEING A NUMBER OF WOMEN WHO ARE DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. IT’S A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN A TOPIC OF DISCUSSION FOR A WHILE NOW. MANY OF THEM ARE MOTHERS, SISTERS, SINGLE WOMEN AND ELDERLY WHO ARE ALL GOING THROUGH THE SAME BUT DIFFERENT OBSTACLES. REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF FIRE BETH PHILLIPS SAYS THERE ARE PLENTY OF REASONS WHY THEY’RE SEEING WOMEN DEALING WITH MENTAL HEALTH PROBLEMS THAN EVER BEFORE. I THINK WOMEN DO STRUGGLE MORE JUST BEING ABLE TO KEEP THE CONNECTIONS JUST BECAUSE OF WHAT LIFE LOOKS LIKE. SOMETIMES YOU KNOW, IF YOU DO HAVE KIDS, IF YOU’VE GOT THEIR ACTIVITIES, IF YOU’VE GOT A JOB, IF YOU’RE A STAY AT HOME MOM, LIFE JUST LOOKS DIFFERENT EVERY DAY. NOW, PHILLIPS SAYS THEY WANT TO BE AN OUTLET. RIGHT NOW. THE ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING WORKOUT ACTIVITIES EACH AND EVERY WEEK. THEY ALSO COME TOGETHER FOR FAMILY DISCUSSION GROUPS AND WORKSHOPS TO HELP COMBAT THIS ISSUE. AND OF COURSE, HERE’S ANOTHER LOOK OF THOSE FEMALES IN ACTION THIS MORNING. Females In Action focuses on bodies, minds and hearts.FIA is seeing a number of women who are dealing with mental health issues. It's a problem that has been a topic of discussion for a while now. Many of them are mothers, sisters, single women and older individuals who are all going through similar obstacles. Regional director of FIA Beth Phillips says there are plenty of reasons why they're seeing women dealing with mental health problems more than ever before. You have women who will reach out and will support you, just hopping on the communication that we use and say, 'Hey, just pray for me today.'” Phillips said.Phillips said they want to be an outlet.
